| So I collect words for "thing." Is that so wrong? |
| The list below contains words we use for things we do not know the names of, or which we do not wish to name. |
|
If you know any words not on this list, please send me an e-mail with the word and anything special about its origin. Less than twenty involved cheating (i.e., looking them up in Roget's); the rest were found natcherly. |
Special Notes
(1) Uttered by Charlottesville High
School physics instructor, Mr. T. Wright. Not sure if he originated
it.
(2) These I think I invented by accident
over the years while searching for the right word. Pronounce them"muh-HA-gurr"
and "muh-HOO-gurr."
(3) This is my dad's word, possibly his invention. it refers
to a person and implies affection for the one named OR having
forgotten their name, e.g., "Schmigdrop, here, is barely
up to my knee" or "We couldn't go because schmigdrop
was late."
